Huaraz is a city located in the Ancash Region of Peru, in the central Peruvian Andes, about 420 km (eight hours by bus aprox.) north of Lima, and at an altitude of 3,052 meters (10,013 ft) above sea level. It was founded as San Sebastián de Huaraz and is the capital of the Ancash Region and the seat of government of Huaraz Province. The urban area’s population is distributed over the districts of Huaraz and is the 22nd largest city in Peru. The airport is still in the process of being modernized, so its commercial flights are not yet operating normally.

Huascarán National Park
Huascarán National Park is located in the Cordillera Blanca mountain range of the central Peruvian Andes, covering parts of ten provinces in the Department of Ancash. It was founded in July 1975 and covers an area of 340,000 hectares, with elevations ranging from 3,500 meters to mountains that exceed 6,000 meters, including Huascaran (6,768masl), the highest peak in Peru.
The park is managed by the Peruvian Network of Protected Natural Areas and is the seventh-largest national park in Peru. The park protects the Cordillera Blanca, which is the world’s highest tropical mountain range.
The mountains of Cordillera Blanca are the primary appeal of the national park, and there are a good handful of mountains reaching summits over 6,000 meters.
The park was established to protect the striking and picturesque mountains of the Cordillera Blanca, and it protects the tallest mountain in Peru and the fourth tallest mountain in South America.
