Safety & Policies Travel
1. Your travel insurance is very important
Travel insurance is a condition of travel with Made In Mountain, so we strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency services, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers cancellations and lost luggage. Please send a copy/policy number to our offices when booking a trek with us.
2. Warning about our mountain adventures.
We may travel in regions where standards of accommodation, transportation, safety, hygiene, medical facilities and other infrastructure may, at times, be lower than what is normally expected; remember that our destinations are the mountains, so in many occasions to reach them we often have to temporarily live in localities with very low standards of services and attention to the tourist.
Your booking is accepted on the understanding that you realize the dangers involved in this type of vacation, including injury, illness, loss or damage to property, inconvenience and discomfort.
By booking any of our adventures, you assume the risks associated with them, for these Made In Mountain accepts no liability. You must inform us when you book the hike if you have any medical condition that may affect your ability to do the hike. This information will help us plan the hike for your safety.
Due to the nature of the remote geographical location of the trails and the lack of suitable nearby medical facilities along the trails, Made In Mountain will not accept any responsibility, either directly or indirectly, for any problems due to your special dietary requirements or medical condition. We suggest that you consult with your doctor before booking the hike.
4. Extreme cases
Changes to the itinerary may be caused by local political conditions, social conflicts, mechanical breakdowns, weather, border restrictions, illness, or other unforeseeable circumstances. In these cases, prorated refunds will be given for unused services whenever possible.
Please note that the schedules for land departures and trekking times are only estimates. These schedules may be affected by operational difficulties, weather conditions or that passengers are not able to perform with the physical sufficiency (experience), so it is recommended to hire the adventure that is tailored to their capabilities considering the difficulty, altitude, slope, time, distance.
6. About your stay in Peru
The laws and customs of Peru may be very different from those of your country of origin. Be aware of your actions to make sure they do not offend, especially if you intend to visit religious areas (Peru is a highly religious country and a believer in the powers of nature). There can be serious penalties for doing something that might not be illegal in your home country. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with and respect local laws and customs, and we strongly recommend that you check with the respective embassy, consulate or office in your country for more information on local Peruvian laws and customs. Your main guide will also give you the necessary information for these cases.
7. Additional assistance
If you have difficulties while on vacation and ask us for help, we will provide you with appropriate assistance, in particular, by providing you with information about health services, local authorities and consular assistance; and help you find alternative arrangements and necessary telephone calls or e-mails. You must pay the costs we incur, if the difficulty is your fault.
8. Passport, Visa, Health, Travel and Immigration Requirements
Your specific passport and visa requirements, and other immigration requirements are your responsibility and you must confirm them with the relevant embassies and/or consulates. We accept no responsibility if you are unable to travel because you have not complied with any passport, visa or immigration requirements.
Please note that for some trips we need to apply for special permits and, as such, we will need your passport details before accepting your booking. Also, if you renew your passport after you have made your reservation, you may need to bring your previous passport with you to maintain the validity of the permit.
9. Your health is the most important thing
We can advise on mandatory health requirements; however, we are not medical experts. It is your responsibility to ensure that you obtain appropriate and detailed medical advice at least 2 months prior to travel for the latest health requirements, recommendations for your destination and any costs. You must verify this information at least 2 months prior to departure and again within 14 days of departure. Where you fail to do so and are not permitted to enter any country, or suffer personal injury or death as a result, we will have no liability to you for any costs, loss or damage you suffer nor will we reimburse you for the cost of any unused portion of your travel arrangements. Customers with existing medical problems, pregnant women and anyone who has recently visited other countries should check with their family physician for requirements.
On an active group holiday, you are required to comply with the authority of the leader, who represents Made In Mountain. If you commit any unlawful act during the vacation or if, in our reasonable opinion or the reasonable opinion of the leader or other person in authority, your behavior is disruptive, threatening or abusive, causes unnecessary inconvenience, affects the enjoyment of other customers’ vacations, or is causing or is likely to cause damage to property, danger, distress or discomfort, annoyance or inconvenience to others or places any other traveler or our staff at any risk or danger, by telephone, in writing or in person, we may terminate your travel arrangements without any liability on our part.
11. Guide Authority
By confirming your booking, you agree that Made In Mountain tour leaders have the authority to prevent you from participating in any part of a tour if they have limitations on (a) your ability to safely participate in an activity or (b) your physical ability to complete an activity in the required time scale. In the event that the leader deems such a decision to be necessary, we will make reasonable efforts to make alternative arrangements, but we will not be responsible for providing refunds for missed activities and you may be responsible for additional costs incurred.
